This week in English, Year 3 have been reading ‘Escape from Pompeii’ by Christina Balit They have been adopting the roles of Tranio and Livia in order to understand their feelings during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. They have been focussing on adventurous vocabulary and paragraphing to write descriptively.
In Art, the children have been exploring primary colours and secondary colours. As part of their learning Journey, the children made black silhouette volcanoes and using the splatter paint technique, created a bright and energised volcanic eruption. These paintings have been displayed the classrooms and corridors. They look fantastic!
In science, children have been geologists finding out what is underneath the grass! This week they have been observing different types of rocks and comparing them. As the term progresses, they will investigate fossils, how rocks are made, and set up practical experiments using rocks and soils.
