GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Our Schools

What is the Nursery Curriculum?

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, focussing on supporting the Prime areas of development;

  • Personal Social and Emotional development,
  • Communication and Language,
  • Physical Development.

We also provide play activities to support children with the specific areas of the curriculum as well, these are:

  • Literacy,
  • Maths,
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design.

We have an adaptable curriculum and follow the interests of the children. We provide lots of singing, stories and rhymes to help children to develop their listening and language skills.

We have one PE session a fortnight during which children are encouraged to play games, dance and develop their physical skills. We are also developing our Forest School area and sessions are held on alternate weeks.

We follow phase one letters and sounds to help to develop the children's listening skills and prepare them for reading when the start school. Some of these activities may include music, stories, rhymes and rhyming games and towards the end of the year an introduction to letter sounds and oral blending. We will have a focus story or two each half term to support children’s language and early literacy development.

How are our Nursery children taught?

Teaching sessions are delivered through whole class carpet sessions, focused activities and small group activities. Practitioners ensure children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe, supporting and valuing each child’s individual learning and developmental needs. The Nursery provides a great opportunity to build early relationships with children and parents before they start school, which further supports children’s individual needs and the transition between Nursery and Reception.

We use create online learning journeys using an app called Tapestry. This enables us to share learning and communicate well with families.
