School Strategy Board (Governors)

Welcome to the School Strategy Board (Governors) page

Warren Mead Junior School Strategic Board

Warren Mead Junior School is part of GLF Schools, a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) made up of Primary and Secondary schools.  The governance structure of the trust had been developed to support both the culture of GLF Schools and the effective management of a growing organisation. GLF Schools recognises the individuality of each school and that each school has its own distinct character and culture that is respectful of its community and context.

The Trust Board is accountable to the Secretary of State for all schools within the MAT and responsible for compliance with government and EFSA requirements, company law and charity law. Whilst the Trust Board will always remain accountable, there is delegation of decision making where appropriate. Further information on GLF governance arrangements can be found  here.

Each school within the MAT has a School Strategy Board (SSB) to provide the local governance function, to which the Trust Board delegates.

In all schools, governance, should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management, including well-being, of staff
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Each SSB has nine members, comprised of: voluntary members of the community, elected parent representatives, the Headteacher, the School Business Manager and members of the GLF central team. The members discharge their duties through: twice termly board meetings, monitoring visits and contributing to other working groups and committees within The Trust.  Members also attend training to improve understanding of their role and to keep up to date in the ever-changing educational world.

Warren Mead SSB

Warren Mead Infant School and Warren Mead Junior School have a combined SSB that meets once per half term. Various leaders in the school might be invited to attend an SSB meeting to support the Governors understanding on key whole school initiatives.  The below sets out the SSB structure at Warren Mead for 2019/20:

Mr Ejaz Ali

(eali@warrenmead.co.uk)

My name is Ejaz Ali and in my day job, I am a senior executive at a global business, with over 18 years’ experience in legal and corporate roles - over 8 of those years sitting at Executive Board level.

I have 2 children at the schools and initially joined as a Governor of Warren Mead Infants in 2017, subsequently being elected as Chair of the SSB for both schools in 2019.

In my spare (!) time I enjoy cooking (and of course eating) and have a real passion for music, being an avid guitar player.

Mr Andrew Jennings

Before going into church leadership, I was a primary school teacher for 12 years in several different London schools. I absolutely loved this; and in particular forming links with the local community so we could all work together to best benefit the children and their families.

Mr Oliver Bone (obone@warrenmead.co.uk)

Parent Governor

My name is Oliver Bone and I am the recently appointed Parent Governor for Warren Mead’s SSB. I live locally to the school, in Banstead and am the proud father of Imogen (year 2) and Isaac (year 5).  After being part of the fabulous PFA for the last 5 years and seeing what a positive impact that has had on our children and the school, I wanted to take my involvement and support of the school to the next level and volunteer as a governor.

During the day, I lead a European pharmaceutical research sales team and am a global board member, and I hope to bring the skills that I have developed during my career, to the school.
