Fixtures & Results
After the success of winning the district finals Warren Mead were proudly representing Banstead & Reigate at the County finals being held at Dorking Football Club. With eight teams all vying for the opportunity to represent Surrey in the regional finals the excitement was electric! Warren Mead were grouped with Holy Trinity (Guildford), St Cecilia’s (Sutton) & St Augustine’s (Surrey Heath). Our first fixture we found ourselves in a tricky position of 2-0 down. A pep talk from Mr Pothecary and Mrs Conroy saw the boys play some marvellous football and finish the game with a 3-2 win! The second game was against the strong St Cecilia’s. After a great start WM controlled the game and some excellent early chances. As the game drew on St Cecilia’s grew strong and WM had to defend well with some outstanding goalkeeping from Hudson D. With only seconds left on the clock a fantastic pass found the excellent Henry L, who slotted home neatly and a 1-0 win for WM. Our final fixture versus Holy Trinity and we knew a win would secure a top place finish and progress into the semi-final. A tense first half saw WM dominate the game with no goals scored, the introduction of Harry T, saw a wonderful piece of skill ending in a sublime top corner finish with WM winning the game 1-0, next up the semi-finals! New Haw (Woking) were our opponents. Both teams nervous not to concede the game became scrappy, after 20 minutes of play the game tied 0-0 with 6 minutes of extra time to be played. Again both teams nervous not concede the game was only going one way and that was penalties! After 26 minutes with both teams giving everything we had the lottery of penalties. New Haw opted to go first and scored, WM scored, New Haw again scored 2-1, WM scored 2-2, New Haw scored 3-2, WM must score to stay in……goal 3-3. It was now sudden death. New Haw….Scored…..WM missed! Unfortunately it was not meant to be and we went out on penalties without losing game. Tough one to take.
The boys were outstanding and represented WM with wonderful attitudes and brilliant football. They were amazing!
